"It never hurts to tell a little fib to your kids to get them to do something."
-Bill Cosby
In the upcoming weeks, my family and I will be moving to a new house. Now, I don't know how many of you have had your house up for sale, or moved to a new house, but those of you who have know that there is a lot of hard work that goes into getting the house ready for showings (when people make an appointment to come look at your house) and packing when you finally do sell your house.
We had our house on the market for close to two months before we sold it. Before we sold it, we probably had close to 20 showings. We constantly had to keep the house clean, which meant my room had to be clean 24/7. That may not sound bad for those of you who keep your room clean all the time anyways. But im not one of those people. I constantly have clothes everywhere. Literally everywhere. And I never make my bed. These things became problems when we had unexpected showings. So I would sleep on top of my covers and just cover up with a blanket, because I didn't have time to make my bed every morning before school. And I began to just shove clothes anywhere they would go that wouldn't be seen. My family and I had to spend hours making sure the house was absolutely perfect and everything was perfectly clean. The showings were definitely the worst part of having your house on the market; they take a lot of work.
The people that bought our house wanted to bring their grandparents to see it on Sunday. So I spent all of my Saturday night cleaning my room. And I had already started packing it, so I had to finish packing all of those boxes and then go through my clothes, and pick out the ones I wanted to keep and then re-put them all away. Then I had to clean out underneath my bed and pack up my desk. I didn't finish until midnight, and when my Dad came in to tell me good night, he told me that the people canceled the showing, and that they weren't coming the next day. I said, "Oh yeah Dad. Haha very funny." And he was like, Sam im not kidding. I asked him when he found this out and he said right after I started cleaning my room. I was so mad. I felt like one of those people in little cartoons that have steam coming out of their ears. He said that if he and my mom had told me the showing was canceled I probably wouldn't have gotten my room clean, and that's why they did it. Oh my gosh. My parents thought it was the funniest thing in the world. My little brother even knew the showing was canceled and didn't find it necessary to tell me. Ugh. Parents. Seems like my parents have taken on Bill Cosby's parenting style.
